SEEING IN THE DARK—
A Film by Timothy Ferris

Stargazing is not just a hobby—it’s a connection, a link to the vaster Universe of which we are a part. Timothy Ferris is very familiar with the yearning that stargazers feel when they go out into the night. Ferris’ latest public television production, Seeing in the Dark, is an adaptation of his book of the same title. It is an attempt to explain this love for the night sky.

Ferris explains, "We may love this sensation, but as it says in the film, 'It can be hard to put love into words.' So this is a film in which stargazers try to describe an ineffable experience, and invite viewers to share their wordless awe."

Seeing in the Dark airs Wednesday, September 19, at 8:00 p.m. on PBS. Ferris has made use of the highest technology in producing this cinema-quality program. It is intended to take advantage of HD television and digital surround-sound technology. Regardless of how you watch Seeing in the Dark, you will be inspired to embark on a journey that can begin by stepping outside after the program.

Note: You can preview the program, view resources, and even request observations made with a robotic telescope set up just for viewers on the PBS Seeing in the Dark Web site.
